Before the PhD
Before starting a PhD program, ask yourself: Is a PhD program right for me, and are the conditions right for my situation? The following checklist can help you decide

- Why do I want a PhD?
- Can I imagine working on one topic for at least 3, more realistically 4 years?
- Do I have adequate funding for the entire duration of the program?
- Do I have an advisor with whom I can imagine working for at least 3 years?
- Does my advisor have time to advise me and meet with me regularly? Can I conclude a supervision agreement with her/him?
- Do I have a place where I can complete my work and/or conduct experiments?
- Do I seek interaction on a regular basis? Which type of PhD is right for me?
PoGS is the skills and advising center for junior and advanced researchers at the University of Potsdam and supports you ideally and financially.

Bevor Sie eine Promotion beginnen, sollten Sie sich fragen: Ist eine Promotion das Richtige für mich und stimmen die Rahmenbedingungen? Die nachfolgende Checkliste kann Ihnen dabei helfen.
Checkliste für Promotionsinteressierte (Klicken zum ausklappen)
- Warum möchte ich promovieren?
- Kann ich mir vorstellen, mich mindestens 3, realistischerweise 4 Jahre mit dem Thema zu beschäftigen?
- Habe ich eine adäquate Finanzierung für die gesamte Promotionsphase?
- Habe ich eine:n Betreuer:in, mit der/dem ich mir die Zusammenarbeit über die gesamte Promotionslaufzeit vorstellen kann?
- Hat mein:e Betreuer:in Kapazitäten, um mich gut fachlich zu betreuen und regelmäßige Treffen mit mir einzurichten? Kann ich eine Betreuungsvereinbarung mit ihr/ihm abschließen?
- Habe ich einen Arbeitsplatz, an dem ich meine Promotion anfertigen und/oder Experimente durchführen kann?
- Wünsche ich mir regelmäßigen Austausch, auch mit anderen Promovierenden? Welche Promotionsform ist für mich geeignet?
Die PoGS ist das Kompetenz- und Beratungszentrum für junge und fortgeschrittene Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler an der Universität Potsdam und unterstützt Sie ideell und finanziell.
